Reflecting on our freedom in Christ

Today, July 4th, 2025, as we reflect on the freedoms afforded to us by the document signed on this date 249 years ago, my mind turns to another freedom; the freedom purchased for us by Christ Jesus almost 2,000 years ago. This freedom isn’t in the form of a document, although it has been documented; this freedom wasn’t purchased with gold and silver – the price was much higher; this freedom wasn’t purchased with blood, sweat, tears, or treason, although all were present at the exchange. This freedom was purchased by grace.

Freedom isn’t free. The price is beyond measure. For the founding fathers, the cost of providing freedom from the tyranny and oppression of a great world power meant the possibility of losing everything and being executed for the charge of treason. For Jesus Christ, the cost of providing freedom from the tyranny and oppression of sin meant the possibility of gaining everything by being tried and executed for the charge of declaring himself to be king. He is the King, yet He remained silent and sacrificed himself for our freedom. Why?

Simple. One word. Grace.

O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

What is grace?

What is grace? It is the undeserved favor of God. Did we deserve to be set free? Certainly not. So why did He do it? Simple. One word. Love.

What is the freedom He provided in this selfless act of grace and love? The freedom from death. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are no longer chained to sin and death. We have a choice now, to choose eternal life – Christ – or eternal death. It is a choice, not a given.

Freedom is what we have — Christ has set us free! Stand, then, as free people, and do not allow yourselves to become slaves again. Galatians 5:1 GNT

Consider your freedom

So today, consider your freedom. The benefits of living in the United States of America afford us many freedoms, most of which we take advantage of every day and even take for granted. Remember, freedom isn’t free. Someone must pay. We live in freedom today because centuries of warriors paid that price for our freedom.

Deeply consider the freedom purchased for you by Jesus Christ. We can live in freedom forever because Christ paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Accepting or declining this gift has eternal consequences. The choice is yours. Another gift from God – Free Will.

Accept the free gift of grace

He’s freely offering you the gift of freedom, but you have to reach out and take it.

Have you?

Will you?

I challenge you to accept this gift from God. It will change your life forever and set you free!
